Researcher: Steffen Lorenz
Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Gerrit Dimmendaal
Interdisciplinary research project on the language ecology in the northern Ugandan city Gulu.
Using methods taken from sociolinguistics, linguistic anthropology and sociology it explored the use of language in various contexts of everyday life. In applying quantitative methods, ethnographic fieldwork and qualitative network analysis the study revealed the complex relationship of the socio-economic factors, spatial conditions, individual biographies and social structures on the shape of language biographies, language attitudes and language use in this highly dynamic environment.
